Victoria Nyanjura is a survivor of human trafficking by the Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda

She was abducted at 14 at school. Five of the girls who were taken prisoner with her died. Enduring eight years of captivity and giving birth to two children, she escaped in 2004 on a rainy night.

After returning to her family, she shifted from engineering dreams to studying development and global affairs. Now a community activist, she founded Women in Action for Women (WAW), an NGO focused on improving lives through vocational training and support services.

Victoria enjoys going to the gym, interacting with family members, meeting women groups, telling stories and spending time with friends.
